OSTC is very proud to share the amazing achievement of Ian Firla, our group COO, who recently ran the Chicago Marathon. Here’s how the day went in his own words:
“On the 8th of October, I ran the 40th Chicago Marathon. This was my 17th marathon, 4th from the World Marathon Majorsseries and my best result to date. I finished with a time of 2:53:43 which gave me an average pace of 4:07 per km (around 6:37 per mile). I placed 480th overall out of over 45000 runners, 29th in my age group and was the 3rd Polish runner to cross the line!
The day itself was magnificent and really made the hundreds of hours of training and thousands of kilometres that I’ve run worth it. There’s nothing like a marathon major for the experience. There are over a million screaming spectators lining the entire route. The signs, the shouts and the music all accompanies you through a route that covers the core of the city.
Afterwards, Chicago really embraces you as you walk (or limp) around the city. Free beers in restaurants, high fives from other runners and regular Chicagonians… truly an experience I recommend for everyone to try at least once if not as a runner, then as a spectator.
Thanks for all the support from everyone at OSTC. Our ethos of drive and discipline translates perfectly to training and running a marathon!
Next up? Tokyo and London to complete the 6 World Marathon Majors and a go at breaking into the 2:40s!”
